ARBOR - Boston, MA
Located in a quiet Boston neighborhood, this 4,500-square-foot modern residence replaces a dilapidated structure while paying homage to its original form. The design reinterprets the traditional roofline and facade character through a contemporary lens.
The site presents a complex dual slope, descending from south to north and dropping steeply into the backyard. To address the increased building height caused by the lower grade, the massing is carefully sculpted to reduce the vertical scale. A standing seam metal roof 'drapes' down the facade to break up the elevation, while the upper levels cantilever beyond the brick foundation. Angled recesses further articulate the volume, carving out a sheltered entry canopy and a private balcony for the primary bedroom.
