An addition to an existing historic, landmark home in Cambridge, Massachusetts required the design to be a complete compliment to the existing house. A very thorough review by the Cambridge Historical Commission was necessary for approval, and the project was commended for it's sensitive and thoughtful design. The kitchen and mudroom addition maintained a proportional scale and tied into the original structure with seamless use of materials. The mudroom component of the addition has a flat roof with skylights to maximize natural light, as the taller kitchen footprint provides an outdoor deck for bedrooms on the upper floors.
