ON THE BOARDS: Back Bay, Boston Office Design / by Nima Yadollahpour

A 7,000 square foot open loft in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay is the shell space for the design of a new dynamic office space. A California based technology company has requested ONY to design the space to feel less like an office, and more as a welcoming, warm and inviting environment where employees and consultants work and meet.

The overall concept is to create a “village center” in the middle of the space which serves as a casual meeting space. The “village center” consists of a kitchen with a central counter, surrounded by casual lounge seating. The backdrop to the “village center” is an organizational element in the form of a screen wall which separates a private circulation zone along the back to bathrooms/storage/stairs. The screen wall is created by an abstraction of the company’s name in sculptural lettering. Surrounding the “village center” are more formal working areas, and meeting rooms.
